Excellent ruling. Glad to see it turn out this way. But what if... and now just hear me out... what if someone DIDN'T have to prove their religiosity in order to do humanitarian work without risk of arrest and prosecution? Crazy, right?

I have no idea what specifically went wrong in Iowa, though it seems unlikely, given the records kept at each precinct, that it will affect the final official outcome. The big risk is that disruptions and uncertainty like this will be exploited to discourage people from voting.

Does anyone know of a survey of consumer and small business edge routers by support for SCTP?

This impulse can count, among its victims, SCTP, DCCP, and IPv6. And our ability to make any new protocol that isn't pretending to be HTTP.

I legitimately do not understand the impulse some network admins and netsec folks have to block every type of traffic they personally do not specifically know should be allowed. The impact to operations is high. Does it really help anything?

I tell people to stop worrying about futuristic runaway smart AI, because it's stupid current AI that will kill us, this is what I mean. Someone bought a product that *literally* text-matched the word "charity" as 'good' and "vodka" as 'bad' and is making hiring choices with it.

the one of the worst parts of this is that ’s tag line is “The smartest way to screen toxic workplace behavior.” i dunno about you, but snitching on potential employees’ twitter *likes* that mention alcohol or the word “fuck” seems like toxic workplace behavior to me

I don’t usually like to brag, but I’m going to make an exception. I stepped away from my computer after not solving a bug because it’d been a long day. I actually walked away and left it sitting there for tomorrow. This is a top 3 personal accomplishment of the month.

Finally, talk to people about politics (and other "forbidden" topics) if you are comfortable. Taboos about that prevent people from knowing that ${awful bill} hurts people they care about. Share your story and your friends' stories if you are able.

The only thing that registering for a party will ever make hard is rising through the leadership ranks of the opposing party. It doesn't even oblige you to vote. But the party only listens to people who are involved, which can be you.

If you don't usually vote because the candidate is some unexciting plutocrat with whom you share no views, register for your preferred party and get involved in the primary (process varies by state). It's not some secret cabal. You can be part of it. Bring a friend.

Tell your friends! And dispel some disinformation. Some of your friends probably think the way they voted becomes public record, so stay away. I have heard many people say this. It's simply not true. We have a secret ballot.

Even if you don't agree with that, at least vote for governor. Because mostly that is who decides what district you are in, a favorite way to slant elections. And while you are there, you might as well cast the other bits of your ballot too.

And even if you think the electoral college is bullshit and makes it all not matter, cast your vote for president anyway. This can change statistics like "lost the popular vote by 2.1%" to "lost the popular vote by 15%". That is a persuasive statistic.

In most states, you can become a poll worker so you can help keep the vote running smoothly and prevent tampering. Matt Blaze uses his professorial powers and assigns you do this if your state allows it.

You (yes you) can give force to Florida's ex-felon re-enfranchisement law by paying the BS court fees of people who served their sentence. This allows them to vote and costs about $500 a person. Probably less significant money for you than for them.

We should see that the election doesn't treat them kindly either. Now is the time to register folks to vote - you can go door to door or stand on the street doing this in many states if you get a stack of forms. Also:
