Yesterday the Senate decided to vote on impeachment without hearing witnesses. At midnight, OMB acknowledged (pursuant to court order & at the last minute) emails document Trump’s involvement. Evidence will continue to surface despite the Senate cover up.

Just when this guy couldn’t get more cruel, a dramatic expansion of the travel ban is now on the table. As my former colleague says, this is an extension of family separation. And as points out, it is absolutely arbitrary, based not on fact but whim.

  8. There's us lawyers parsing the new immigration restrictions issued by Trump. And then there's ppl who just see that he's keeping foreigners out and think that's a good thing.

  9. Family separation is the point!

  10. Why penalize immigrants? Order says they're harder to remove. But, as order concedes applicants for immigrant visas "have the burden to show family ties or employment in the U.S." This is a heavy burden. Immigrant visas are the most heavily vetted, so pose least risk.

  11. So how did we get from 12 to 6? Per the order, 1 made "exceptional progress" and for 5, "foreign policy interests" overrode.

  12. Per the order, DHS identified several countries who were the worst-performing, then cut it down to 12. Why? Iraq was too important, and so was "another similarly situated country. We don't know if there were others on the list that didn't make it into the list of 12.

  15. National security officials have publicly said that bans are counterproductive & harm national security cooperation. But, they do keep brown & black ppl from becoming Americans. And that seems to be the point.

  18. If you're from Sudan & Tanzania you can't enter the diversity visa lottery. Trump has long been a critic, saying that countries send their worst ppl ... it's a lottery, not chosen by countries, but whatever ...

  19. The bulk of the restrictions apply to immigrant visas -- ppl from Nigeria, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan & Eritrea who would mostly be coming to unite w family in the U.S. can't do that anymore. As we've said before, these bans operate as policies.

  20. 4 out of 6 of these countries are in Africa. Trump has never wanted immigration from Africa, remember this remark about "shithole countries"? 4 of them are also majority Muslim, so there's def a pattern here.
