My annoyance with the world is slowly being replaced by amusement.

Same here, but also more horror than when I was younger.

Precisely. As the horror becomes more obvious, you need the amusement to cope.

I’m jealous. I can move towards bemusement with my interpersonal relationships or with high level politics. For me, certain things are just horror. No bemusement related to Syrian war or the struggle of people of color in the us, and so many others.

I would agree that certain things are not conducive to anything but horror. Indeed, it's difficult to be amused by victims in Syria. That requires equanimity more than anything else.

There are times we need to laugh, smirk, get angry, and cry. Overall things should amuse us but Syria needs us to cry and demand change.

Agreed, though it's best to have a lightheartedness under it all. Taking any emotion too seriously is bound to do more harm than good. There is very little I can realistically do about Syria, and I simply don't have enough information to know what the right thing to do is.

Yes. There is not much we can do. Raise the issue to our elected officials? Donate to NGOs who are relieving what they can? These are small things. We need to recognize that geopolitics is a ever present samsaric condition that will punish some more than others.
