There's no such thing as a "controversy". Outrage is manufactured. If you choose not to give a shit, it's not a controversy anymore.
I think so. It takes time, energy, and effort to be invested in something. It takes virtually no effort to be indifferent.

If only that were true. Most people have personal histories that make being indifferent nearly impossible, or else they’ll end up dissociating if they attempt it. Your theory has intuition going for it, but reality doesn’t bear it out.
-
Yes, I think you're right about that. You have to first become detached from your personal history, which take practice. Once you do that, a lot of things become more effortless.
-
I’d love to meet somebody who’s done that. Also, there’s personality structure which throws a hitch into the whole endeavor.
-
I've done that to some degree, though that's not to say there aren't personality structures that are harder than others to do it with. There's really not much about your "self" that you can't change.
-
I’ve now see both Jack Kornfield and Ken McLeod talk about his retreat practice did not touch their core personality features.
-
Do you have a link to Ken McLeod talking about this? Sounds like an interesting talk.
-
No, it was at Buddhist Geeks in LA several years ago.
