Does anyone know if someone has made the connection between the notion of karma and the neuro-psychological phenomenon of priming? While delving into the neuroscience and psychological literature on priming, I couldn't help but think of karma as an apt allegory for it.

"Priming is a nonconscious form of memory that involves a change in a person's ability to identify, produce or classify an item as a result of a previous encounter with that item or a related item." (Schacter, et al. Specificity of priming: A cognitive neuroscience perspective)

It's also been shown that priming contributes to "automaticity" in social and emotional cognition and behavior. That is, much of our the way we think and behave socially and emotionally is influenced by past thoughts, behaviors, and experiences -- often without our awareness.

It should be noted that some forms of priming are very well established scientifically, while others still suffer from inadequate replication. That said, I found the connection kind of interesting. Might write an article about it sometime.
