According to the ancients, it just takes one of us to set the example. Could be something to thishttps://twitter.com/Failed_Buddhist/status/979375993159929856 …

I see no evidence that everyone wants to find happiness in this life. If it were the case, the world would look very different.
-
I don't think most people know what true happiness is...and some might even reject it for material gain once they realize that happiness does not equal wealth or success
-
So perhaps Shantideva should have written "all beings would want true happiness if they understood what it is"
-
what is it?
-
It's not a thing, I don't think. Happiness isn't a matter of acquisition. It's the absence of misconceptions around the nature of existential angst and confusion; the cessation of an endless search for something out there that will mask or explain them away. But what do I know.
-
The Buddha was like: "Hey guy, turns out we've got it all wrong! It's not all about trying to cling to pleasure and avoid pain. If you meditate you'll see that what we cling to and avoid come and go independent of our preferences, so the only solution is to end that habit."
-
I'm no expert on the matter, but I think he may have been onto something.
