According to the ancients, it just takes one of us to set the example. Could be something to thishttps://twitter.com/Failed_Buddhist/status/979375993159929856 …

The problem with “one of us” setting an example is hero worship and the power that comes with it, which is very likely to corrupt anybody who gets to that stage. it would be much better for many to set the example together, and after doing so, bowing out before being lionized.

I agree. But it seems possible that we can come to the realization that we are not special, and let that be the example that leads others.

Finding your own peace doesn't have to result in a religious movement but can be the catalyst that encourages others to do the same. If each member of society focuses on their own inner peace, our society will become peaceful by default.

I think those who are on this path need to be able to step out of the bubble every once and a while too. Reality is that for most people alive, the notion that there is a fundamentally different way to be human, which goes beyond the habits of identification, doesn't compute.

But this is precisely why the true aim has to be one's own understanding instead of forcing the understanding on another (Or selling it to another or being put on a pedestal because of it)

I agree that we need to develop our own experiential understanding first and foremost, and we certainly shouldn't force anything on anyone. But to me, the dharma is utterly useless if it can't be shared by everyone.

We can end our own suffering, and that's great, but what good does that serve in a world where there is still constant suffering all around us? My suffering is a joke compared to the collective suffering of humanity.

I'm only alive for a minuscule amount of time in the grand scheme of things. This body will die someday, and there will still be suffering in the world. If we don't resolve to share our understanding with everyone that we can, then we're just wasting our time here.
