You can barely even use the words "meditation", "awakening", "buddhism", etc. without eliciting eye-rolls and/or accusations of being a New Age hippie weirdo. 2/3

When these terms turn toxic, it becomes almost impossible to present them in a fresh way that doesn't have people's preconceptions of spirituality interfere with their chances of taking it seriously and giving it a try. For Buddha's sake, guys, cut the crap! 3/3

Buddhism is too new in Western society. When it’s been here another 100 years, we’ll be able to have an intelligent discussion about it.
-
I'm afraid we might not have 100 years. The only way we'll make the dharma relevant is by ditching Buddhism. We don't have to consult with the Buddhists or get their blessings. They don't own the dharma.

I have yet to have a serious conversation w/anyone that critiques dharma in an intelligent, informed way, except online in a few cases. Everybody treats it as so ‘precious’, like it’s the f’n Bible.
-
Unfortunately, using the dharma as religious dogma is a lot easier than taking the precious bits that can be found in it and throwing out the rest. People don't want practical tools and solutions, they want beliefs and ideologies.
