what he describes as a bucket sounds like a level of granularity. in addition, don't know that it's possible to decide to not think in terms of categories.

The video is really just tangentially related to what I was describing, but it's a part of it. Agree that it may not be possible to never think in categories - the brain creates them automatically. I do think it's possible to think in categories more loosely than people tend to.
