I used one of those big data prediction services for fun, and it predicted that I'm highly intelligent (questionable), because I liked "Fight Club", "The Onion", and "Music" on Facebook.

We seem to use data to validate our assumptions. Like, we assume you can gauge intelligence based on arbitrary sets of preferences. But what if every respondent is below average intelligence already? So we are intelligent in comparison to whom? (But i'm sure you're very smart)

Exactly. I have no idea what their reference sample looks like, how big it is, or how they even validate their predictions. Unsurprisingly, they don't make that information public.
