It's strange how people freak out after incidents involving self-driving cars, as if human drivers are preferable. We absolutely need oversight around these technologies, but we also need to embrace technologies that can save thousands of lives a year.https://nyti.ms/2GINT5g

From the article: "The company quickly suspended testing in Tempe as well as in Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto." Why don't we suspend testing of human drivers every time a human crashes their car? Over a million people die from human car crashes every year.

Pretty sure this suspension of testing is political theater. As soon as this falls out of the news cycle, it'll be back to testing as usual. Agree the posturing and feigned outrage is absurd, though, given that driverless cars already kill & injure fewer people per mile driven.

Self-driving cars cannot detect bicycles. Proven in research on driverless cars. Solution? Cyclists have to buy their own signal detectors to avoid being hit.

I'm just waiting for self-riding bicycles.
