As for 'This is a stupid question': I don't like to use the word 'stupid' because it's an insult. But the question reflects the problem of isolation w/in dharma, not seeing dharma within the larger cultural context; dharma tunnel vision. We have to get the wider view.
Regardless of what you think of Buddhism, would you say that contemplative/meditative practices are, by far, the greatest human invention in history?

It was a toss-up between 'No' and 'This is a stupid question.' Modern medicine is far more important to us, as is the invention of writing, the electric grid, and the computer. Add the arts: music, literature, theatre, craft, etc.
