Someone correctly pointed out that this wasn't a very thoughtful way to share the newsletter. So, re-tweeting to say why I think this may be useful.https://twitter.com/Failed_Buddhist/status/967552363375538181 …

Most of us can agree that Trump is a terrible president. But we also do a pretty lame job at resisting in a way that would actually change people's minds. Back-and-forth calling people "libtards" or "racists" is fun tribal bickering, but it doesn't actually do anything.

Many people feel (rightly) outraged over the actions of the Trump admin. Many people are also terrible at expressing this in a way that fosters healthy political discourse.

I really think that the media's method of resisting Trump, which is not mindful but driven by often blinding rage and non-willingness to hear other perspectives, is not what's gonna heal the country. Change almost always happens from the bottom-up, not vice versa.

Viewing every story through an anti-Trump or anti-Right lens in general leads us astray because ultimately, we should be trying to change people's minds, not pretending that everything is due to racism and xenophobia (that's not to say much of it isn't).

My conception of what "mindful resistance" would entail is paying attention to how current events are affecting us emotionally, and being able to view those effects objectively.

It can then easier to ask what is the most *useful* way to respond, instead of what feels the most compelling. I think this newsletter generally does a decent job at addressing Trump-related news in a level-headed way.

Tribal political discourse is contagious. Perhaps mindful political discourse can be as well. The way we find out is by trying.
