If we don't want Buddhism to fail in the West, we need to stop fetishising Buddhism.
The answer to humanity's fundamental problem, which is how we can resolve the ideological differences that cause so much suffering in the world. I supposed if I had to put it into words, it would be to drop our ideologies all together.

We're so caught up in being "right", when there's nothing to be right about.
-
so if humans drop their ideologies, suffering will disappear?
-
It would be a hell of a first step. I would argue that much of the reason we don't seem to give a shit about anyone that isn't us is because we're blinded by our beliefs.
-
and what is the solution?
-
To stop asking what the right thing is to believe, and start asking what is the most useful action to take in each circumstance.
-
Put another way, if we navigate the world through propositional ethics - those guided by beliefs in what is right or wrong - we get blinded by the lens through which we're viewing the world.
