Anyone have thoughts on why passions run so high around Jordan Peterson? Seems to be an unusually polarizing figure.

I say anyone who publicly engages in a controversial arena is bound to stir up some passion. I don't necessarily think he's wrong on all counts, I just don't find much of what he says particularly interesting or original.

What specifically that he’s saying do you find derivative?

My thoughts on him are based on his multi-hour conversations with Sam Harris, and a few YouTube videos of his other, shorter conversations (including some parts of his lectures). I didn't mean to say that I find what he says derivative, just - as Kenneth said - not very novel.

I think there are two sides to Peterson - there's some in-depth philosophy, and then there's sort of the "meme" of JP which is more related to culture war stuff. It's the latter that I believe most people are familiar with from him, and which I don't have much of an interest in.
