Just because a trait is heritable doesn't mean it isn't subject to environmental influences. Just because we'd like to believe we can change a certain biological fact about ourselves doesn't mean we actually can. BOTH OF THESE SENTENCES CAN BE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME.

This would be true and certainly is of other species but the pesky problem of human consciousness and the sense, whether or not illusion, of free will, means we experience the possibility of separating ourselves from our environment and making choices that deny it.

Just because we experience something in a particular way, does not mean that this experience is consistent with reality. We experience the possibility of separating ourselves from our environmental, ecological, and cultural-historical context. This experience is a fantasy.
