First of all, what Yosef fails to mention is that the battle Yaffed is fighting is NOT against modern Orthodox Yeshivas (which Yosef presumably attended, given that he is even able to write such an article!), which do provide a (somewhat) more balanced secular education. 3/

The issue is with HASIDIC Yeshivas, which provide either a useless level of education to absolutely no education to their children. Again, fact that Yosef is even able to write this article is a testament to the fact that the Yeshiva he attended is not where the issue lies. 4/

My point is that, not only would these students not have the internet access to enable them to join
@LambdaSchool, most of them can barely construct an English sentence. 5/1 reply 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread -
How does the author anticipate a graduate of these Yeshivas taking online courses in computer science when they have never used a computer, can't perform basic arithmetic, and have never even heard the term "computer science"? 6/

The author states: "On a practical level, it is how we have produced nobel prize winners, billionaires, and members of the U.S. Senate, way above our population percentage." This is laughably disingenuous. 7/

Which Hasidic Yeshiva has produced nobel prize winners? Not "Jewish school", which, again, is not the issue. Which *Hasidic Yeshiva* has produced nobel prize winners? The answer is none, and Hershkop surely knows this. 8/

Hershkop also refers to Yaffed as an "anti-Yeshiva force". This is a blatant mischaracterization. They are a pro-children force. And the fact that he aligns himself as "pro-Yeshivas", rather than pro-children, should tell you all you need to know about his motives. 9/

I would be more than happy to see Yeshiva graduates be able to use
@LambdaSchool as a resource. In fact, I think the idea itself is actually brilliant. 10/1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread -
But if you want this to happen, you MUST understand the issue of education in Orthodox Yeshivas first. Don't let Orthodox elitists like Hershkop muddy the waters. 11/

@AustenAllred, if you're interested in learning more, I would be happy to answer any of your questions. I actually believe you would make a wonderful ally if you can manage to navigate the informational warfare waged by Yaffed's opponents. 12/121 reply 0 retweets 2 likesShow this thread
Also, feel free to reach out to @yaffedorg to hear their side of the story.
Make no mistake: Orthodox leaders are waging full-on information warfare in order to blur the issue.
Please remain skeptical and educate yourselves. Talk to actual former students of Hasidic schools.

Replying to @Failed_Buddhist @yaffedorg
Freedom of religion is promised in our Constitution, education is not. Nobody is forcing you to send your kids to Hasidic yeshivos. If the shoe was on the other foot, would you want the other side to use government to force their ways on you? Why do you do that?
