Several close friends, all meditators, have told me that they still struggle with random uncomfortable and/or disturbing thoughts that they feel ashamed of. Meditation is often sold as a spell that eradicates negative thoughts. This is a sham. (thread) 1/11

But even I don't say all thoughts must be eradicated forever. I only say that one must learn the ability to cut off thinking at any time. Such a skill is basic to meditation.

Definitely. Whenever I say that it is both possible & necessary to enter a state of no-thought (Munen), I hear a chorus of buddhist frogs scream, Impossible! Unnecessary!
