People are horrifyingly bad at evaluating evidence, and employing cognitive decoupling when there are many different factors that emotion would tell you are intertwined, but are actually separate issues that must be analyzed in a vacuum in order to understand the larger system.

I sure do hope I never get placed in front of a jury of my peers, because most of them are not even close to qualified to be making consequential decisions about other people's lives. And that's not to say that I'm qualified. But some things are just like "come on, man, really?"
