"Why is a theory never right? Because we will never know if all the swans are white. The testing mechanism may be faulty. However, the statement that there is a black swan is possible to make." - Fooled by randomness

We can’t find definitely-Right. But we can look for lack of definitely-Wrong. Which means we are always looking for error.

The reason WYSIWYG is hard is that you end up with a state space much more complex than that, for an innocent amount of UI real estate. So everyone is like: just add it!

How much would fixing a bug without having this view cost? Even this view alone may not be sufficient if does not match the structure. Steps may belong to different components and some may share code with unrelated functions.

Same with scientific experiments. You throw away your first data set. I used to call it, “Rinsing the teapot with hot water” to acclimate the pot for tea.

XP was founded on a belief in the superiority of baskets of options. That belief seems to be fading. We need to get it back.

I write better code (and end up with a solution a lot easier to understand/explain) when I throw the first implementation away. Often because of options and cases that are hard to conceive in the beginning.

That was a passage from "The book of why". If we just change "model" to "code" and "represented" to "encoded".

It’s oh so tempting to make up “data” instead of just making a decision:

Hey , why can’t I just drag a photo from to, say, Facebook, and have it transfer over? It isn’t like this is new technology or something.
