Really interesting work, thank you for putting it together. I have a few quibbles (for example, the fact that top tier journals expect 'stories' not findings, which forces researchers to shoehorn results into a frame) - but it's a really solid investigation.

If you want to dig further, I'd also love to see a comparative analysis of biology vs computer science. In my experience, computer science/optimization has a much better academic culture than biology, and that's in part bc job opportunities outside of academia are so good.
