    Sorting some distant past rares for a book today & found my Chestnut-eared Bunting originals (another 1st for the western palearctic) from 18.10.2004 … the digital revolution has moved on somewhat in 17 years but still…

    A Yellow-browed Warbler (Phylloscopus inornatus) that was trapped, ringed and Motus-tagged on Öland on the 6th of October (shown on the photo below) was detected again a week later when it passed several Motus stations in NW Germany.

    With eyes mounted high up and strongly to the sides of the head, there's nowhere to hide from the view of a Woodcock. This one kept a close eye on me, even when directly behind it!

    Another astounding day of migration with island totals of 58 Ring Ouzel, 1589 Blackbird, 9739 Redwing, 227 Brambling, 5 LEO, 23 Woodcock and so on.... not mention the list of rare/scarce birds that came with them

    A proper late-autumn day , with an arrival of Long-eared Owls, thousands of Blackbird and Redwing, plus smaller numbers of Woodcock, Ring Ouzel and Goldcrest. Quality came in the form of an obliging Bluetail and sadly less obliging Spotted Crake...
