There are so many facets to opera. Make-up is a powerful tool in storytelling, as it represents the process of creating characters through colors, powders, and products.

Today we are celebrating a landmark for Florida Grand Opera with the announcement of our 80th anniversary season. A season filled with high drama, scandal, intimacy, obsession, and power with a mix of audience favorites from Baroque to 20th and 21st Century Operas.

We are kicking off the season with A Streetcar Named Desire by André Previn. Based on the play of the same name by Tennessee Williams, it is filled with soaring melodies and an orchestral score that puts you right in the middle of a New Orleans hot and steamy summer. A true contemporary verismo masterpiece.
The season continues with a beloved staple in the operatic repertoire, Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto. We are thrilled to welcome back the American baritone Todd Thomas singing the title role of Rigoletto.
We head north to Lauderhill Center for the Performing Arts with Fellow Travelers by Gregory Spears. An opera set during the McCarthy era of the 1950s paranoia focusing on the "lavender scare" which it was, the persecution and mass firings of gay people from the United States government.
Wrapping up the season, we present one of George Frideric Handel's earliest operatic compositions. Agrippina tells the story of the mother of Nero, as she plots the downfall of the Roman emperor Claudius and the installation of her son as emperor.
