I’m curious as to whether such communities are new, or whether the internet has simply allowed these deranged and dangerous ideologies to spread and their adherents to more easily communicate.

Has this level of misogyny - as expressed through a violent subculture, rather than patriarchal hegemony - always existed within a certain subset of men? Has it developed in the last half century? Regardless, it’s pretty scary.
