Today’s EAPS Colloquium is Dr. Thaddeus Komacek from the University of Chicago. He’ll be giving a talk titled “The Atmospheric Circulation and Evolution of Warm, Hot and Ultra-Hot Jupiters.” Stop by HAMP 1252 at 3:30 pm to learn about it!

It appears that my human-sized dog had explosive diarrhea on my floor and then walked through it before going on to enjoy an otherwise normal day. I’m thinking that I should probably just move? 🐶💩😭

UChicago undergrad Olivia Alcabes is published! Olivia found that Gaian feedbacks can emerge via random mutations. As a result, habitability may be resilient against climate perturbations. NO, this does not mean that climate change isn't a big deal.

2019 was pretty cool: I got a tenure track job, my exobiology proposal was selected, I worked with several fantastic students, and my beautiful baby St. Bernard gained 100 pounds. Super grateful and excited for 2020!

Astronomers are increasingly confident we can find life on other planets in our lifetime with the right tools and knowledge. We spoke to of and of about their work pushing things forward.

I might not have any human companionship for the holidays this year, but the good news is I’m pretty sure that these cute reindeer won’t ask me when I’m giving them grandchildren over dinner tonight.

Another poster about the effect of obliquity. M. Barnett used the Rocke-3D model and the genie biogeochrmicsl cycling model to derive the biological tracers (O2, ice cover,...) for@an earth-like planet with obliquity between 0 and 40 degrees. #3453

Dear journalists: yes, last month I did say planets that have higher surface pressure and longer day lengths might be great places to live. And I stand by my paper. But, NO, K2-18b is not what I meant 🤦‍♀️

I’m surprised by how often I’m asked to defend my choice to do a terminal MS or to clarify that it wasn’t a failed attempt at a PhD. It was a valuable experience that resulted in an impactful and highly cited paper. My MS is the foundation of my success--not a blemish on my CV.

This is a great opportunity for scientists who seek to carry out intellectually independent research; past Chamberlin recipients have gone on to tenure-track faculty positions at U.Chicago (Dorian Abbot), Purdue University (), and Stanford University ().

New research by Dr. Stephanie Olson, who will be a new faculty member at EAPS next fall, finds exoplanets could have oceans even more hospitable to life than Earth's.
