I reuploaded the Luigi's Mansion ROR since YouTube never enabled the 2K or 4K viewing modes. I uploaded in HEVC this time and it seemed to fix the problem. Even on a 1080p monitor, watching in 2K or 4K will greatly increased video quality. Enjoy!

Later on, a tunnel floods, so you can't go back to the shop. A door that leads to the main shop and a save point is now locked for some reason, so I can't buy items to heal during the second boss. I also happen to be out of healing items, e.g. beat the boss on one life bar.

On chapter 7 of Ninja Gaiden Xbox, and while it's gotten better, this game has a serious lack of checkpoints. There's a part where a bridge breaks and you have to spend ten minutes solving puzzles to get back up, followed by a boss. You die on the boss, you do it all again.

I'm fighting a demon horse on the bridge, and there are a billion Magikoopa kind of enemies infinitely respawning and throwing energy balls at me. The horse keeps charging with all piss and vinegar and the delayed block/dodge roll make staying alive very difficult.

You're supposed to be able to throw off a few shuriken and then launch into a combo, except I can't get the fucking thing to work. There's a bow, too, but they somehow expect you to manually aim in first person while a bunch of fast shinobi are trying to cut your head off.

Proper block/dodge mechanics are essential to a good hack and slash. The player needs to be able to do it immediately upon a button press without any significant delay. In Ninja Gaiden, you can't dodge or block in the middle of a combo, which is a huge problem.

Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is doing everything in its power to make me hate it. There are no tutorials for the combat whatsoever. They just drop you in and expect you to know how to do everything. As far as I can tell, there are no real combos. You just mash X or hold Y.

There it is, my PS2 512x448i OSSC Profile is all the more perfect. Muhuhaha!

It looks like the game runs at 512x224p during gameplay, while menus and certain cutscenes run at 512x448i.

Shadow of Destiny is 240p? On PS2? What the hell?

Unfortunately, my copy is apparently scratched to hell, so I guess I'll have to return it and swap it for another copy.

Ninja Gaiden on Xbox opens with a big fuck you to reviewers and LPers... in 2004. Someone had the gift of foresight.

It's better than the Sega CD's garbage FMVs, because at least these are full RGB sprites, but the dialogue pacing would make SA1 blush.

I like this pseudo-dithering thing the game does for transparencies

I don't know, there's something about Metroidvania that never engaged me nearly as much as any 2D Metroid. It's hard to put into words, but I think it just comes down to Samus being more fun to play as and her upgrades being more intelligently hidden and fun to look for.

The story especially just goes in one ear and out the other. It's got nothing on Order of Ecclesia as far as emotion and stakes go, the Sorrow games had a better cast and better twists, and Portrait of Ruin had the Bloodlines callbacks.

To people out there who adore Symphony of the Night, what is it about that game specifically that elevates it over the GBA and DS Castlevanias? I'm replaying it on PS4 and I find the level design really mundane.
