Two further notes: firstly, since some folk have been trying to "own" us, yes we are aware that the Hagia Sophia was not built as a mosque. However, its current form includes distinctive Ottoman minaret additions, and the resulting look isn't atypical of middle eastern mosques.

The development of mosque architecture owed a lot to early christian church architecture, with the adoption of domes - see e.g. the Dome of the Rock. So yes, possibly we should've used the Suleymaniye, but the HS both has been a mosque & maintains the basic look.
