Every combo is waayy more cool if you know that the person hit every L cancel. Melee is still around for its necessity of technicality making it one of the hardest fighting games to play of all time People don’t play competitive games because it’s easy Also mashing will worsen :(

it’s technically harder for anyone trying to get into the game and keeps people from wanting to play a combo doesn’t get cooler knowing you hit something that at a top level is mandatory melee has so much more tech that isn’t as inane as L cancel, like wavedashing or ledgedash

Higher stakes of messing up is always more entertaining and makes you feel even more good about yourself if you do pull it off. Kinda like a tightrope walker above flames you know? And also I feel like competitive rps is easy to get into but doesn’t mean it’s super popular

Auto L cancel also removes certain tech traps that can be pretty damn good for some characters

again, having a mandatory tech that automatically puts you at a disadvantage for not knowing is unnecessary. It’s not optional to do, you NEED to L cancel every aerial or you get punished, which like, why? It’s not only hard but it’s also super punishing for not being able to

Making a competitive game easier doesn’t *usually* attract more people in the long run

i know so many people who want to get into p+ that are physically turned off to the fact that auto L cancelling is off for tournaments when the option to have it on is there the difference between melee and p+ is that the option for auto LC is THERE, why not use it

The option for turbo mode is there too... and items... I dunno I just think the tangible progress of learning to L cancel can do wonders, and have done wonders for the people who are already well into the scene. I don’t think Project melee should become project ultimate
