at least in smash 4 every character was viable, because of rage. Rage was horribly unbalanced but it made every character “viable” bc they could just abuse rage, from dedede to bayo. this game doesn’t have that. Joker is the best char in the game by far, he has almost no flaws,
has a horribly broken mechanic that straight up invalidates characters, then there are the 15-20 straight up boring top tiers that have no sauce or hype to their gameplay, then the rest is just characters that are decent, and then low tiers, who are completely unviable.
chars like doc, puff, and roar have possibly 90-10’s with almost, if not every top tier and are completely unviable, to the point where theres no reason to even be playing them. Everyone just plays the same 15-20 characters mediocrely and it’s super boring. I can name 5
Players that are legitimately not good who have PR level wins because theyre playing top tiers with lagless buttons or broken combo games that are super boring and not cool in the slightest. I legitimately don’t understand how someone can play a character like palutena
Every single tournament they attend and not even once get bored of doing the same generic 80% bnb’s followed by the easiest edgeguards in the game. There are days *I* get bored of bowser and try to play other characters but the game doesn’t allow me to have fun with them, like
sheik or doc. it sucks because this game is basically catered to me because of how button mashy it is but when there are buttons that are definitively better than other buttons to the point where theres no reason to be playing them in the first place, then whats the point
I know countless people who are actively either learning joker because hes the best, or are learning another top tier so they don’t have to struggle vs the 80 other characters in the game. i don’t even miss smash 4, i just miss there being counterplay that isn’t just playing top

RPS its just Rock beating scissors AND paper, and the only way to win is by playing bigger rock. and the people who DO camp are actively playing the timer, who are borderline stalling so they don’t have to interact with neutral because they know their char WON’T win,
A good example being Sharp’s Sheik vs DM’s pikachu. watched a set of theirs where sharp took a game of dm in sheik/pika because he played the timer and was borderline stalling because he KNEW that if he engaged in the slightest he would straight up die, so instead he just
opted to time him out. so we can either out-mash or play the clock. good times. thats my rant, see yall on saturday lol
