Not to mention most, if not everyone who's competing this weekend is staying at the hotel. They're not enforcing bag checks for suitcases, etc., they're only enforcing them for the venue (GOOD) I never needed a bag for SNS4, I just carried my controller and that was it.

People getting upset about the last minute nature of this announcement are justified, but people making a big deal out of being required to "only bring" a backpack/drawstring are being ridiculous.

Clear backpacks can be expensive and I wouldn’t want my expensive electronics rattling about in a drawstring. Especially if I’m brining a drink and the bottle could leak directly onto them
