If you're a Libertarian, read some Rawls and Marx. If you're a socialist, read some Hayek and Nozick. You most likely won't change sides, but you might modify your views a bit, and fare better in arguments. And it probably won't hurt too much.

Tomasello and Ostrom aren't even that collectivist. I just know that rugged individualists like me need baby steps -- some gentle theoretical reminders that H. Sapiens really is a social species.

I found Marx and Rawls both unrealistic, but I have taken the time, yes.

All four say a lot of things. An open-minded ideological opponent should find some of it unrealistic, but will probably also find some good counterpoints to their own ideology.

Most socialists/progressives that i know don’t even have a BASIC understanding of the principles of their ideological opponents. They mostly just yell “racist” and “misogynist” when it comes to any given issue
