Actively HARMFUL for something POSITIVE for gaming. The people who want to sink Cooking Mama want to make money from you.
Let me—a computer scientist who understands blockchain—explain.
The DRM blockchain (blockchain is NOT cryptocurrency, it’s a theory of transparent stock management) used by Cooking Mama: Coming Home to Mama is POSITIVE for gaming. It manages digital and physical IDs so they CAN BE RESOLD BY THE CONSUMER. It allows “used” digital games.
Furthermore, the variable ID system will allow them to provide subtle variation in gameplay so everyone’s experience is different. That’s really cool. And very good. The people saying it’s mining bitcoin is based on absurd conjecture, “it’s blockchain so it’s mining bitcoin”
AHA. Okay lets dive a little deeper into Cooking Mama: Cookstar (previously Coming Home to Mama) This video game does not exist. But it does. But it doesn’t. This is an absolutely fascinating mystery. For no reason: the game’s release was bungled ... then it was pulled.
Rumors about it malfunctioning seem to be just that: rumors. Those with a copy don’t report anything unusual. Just a normal Cooking Mama game. The final version doesn’t have ANY of the promised features (blockchain management, etc) minus a vegetarian mode. And no one...
No one is taking responsibility for making the game. No company. At all. It’s been about 9 days and no official statement has been made nor anyone official stating to delete/remove the game.

People in the computer science industry do notice reports of it draining the battery quickly, but this appears due to a sloppy removal of the blockchain code. possible it was removed pending a major update. Going to be disassembling that discord message tweet soon.

My tweet about no one taking responsibility is false. However, mentions of the game have been removed from everywhere but 1st Playable. I’ve reached out to them to see if they have a comment.

They had no knowledge of blockchain DRM (and never implemented it). The game plays great for their testers. I’ve asked them some other questions, too.
