In June of 2015, a broad-based coalition asked people across the nation to join in what Hadiya’s friends started, for the first annual National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
#WearOrange originated on June 2, 2015—what would have been Hadiya's 18th birthday.Show this thread -
Now,
#WearOrange is observed nationally on the first Friday in June and the following weekend each year. Americans will wear orange again this year to call attention to our country’s dire gun violence crisis—and to honor victims and survivors of gun violence, including Hadiya.Show this thread -
This Friday, June 4, show your support by wearing orange and sharing your picture on social media with the
#WearOrange hashtag. Then, on June 4-6, join a Wear Orange Weekend virtual event. Text ORANGE to 644-33 to find one in your state.Show this thread
