  11. The course is free and available online in both English and Spanish and takes most users about 45 minutes to complete. Upon successful completion of the course and test, boaters can print out the certificate to carry with them while operating a vessel in the park.

  12. Everglades NP developed the Boater Education course to help orient and educate boaters to the unique features of the park's marine waters. Our overall goal is to protect marine resources while providing world-class recreational opportunities.

  15. Luckily for us here in South Florida, Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue maintains the largest and only antivenom bank for treating snake bites in the United States! The county also provides antivenom to hospitals in the tri-county area and deploys it to out-of-area hospitals.

  16. Despite this, it's important to keep your eye out when hiking through diamondback habitat such as pine rocklands, hardwood hammocks, and coastal prairies. And if you see one while out exploring, remember to respect their space by keeping your distance!

  19. Burning with high intensity will inhibit the growth of invasive species like the Brazillian pepper plant and encourage the growth of sawgrass and muhly grass, aiding in the restoration of the wetlands.

  20. Everglades Fire managers are using prescribed fire to create a buffer around the HID, so they can later apply a high intensity prescribed burn in the restoration area when the timing and weather are right.
