I am in disbelief that the slaughter of the innocent has gone on this long without extreme intervention. Something must be done. Assad tried for war crimes on his own people.

Except that narrative makes no sense strategically. There is no rational sense for Assad to do this now. Why wouldn't he wait until the US had actually gone? Who actually benefits from the US staying there? There is the real question.
