  It is wise to temper our passions and prejudice so that we do not become prey for demagogues who exploit our hate and anger for their own purposes. Demagogues have no power over a people who are committed to compromise, diplomacy, unity and truth.

  If our opponent uses fear we cannot, must not, use fear or hate to respond. To do so means we become them. Hate and fear are the easy path but love takes conscious effort. Part of “love your enemy” means to try to understand those who seek to harm us and respond accordingly.
