Isn't it sad how so many of us knew exactly what they did and how they did it for so long? That we have to watch this steady drip of reality make it's way into the public sphere for a nanosecond, only to be dismissed by the original victims of the operation?

As I write this, I have people explaining to me that Cambridge's operation was no different than an ad campaign for deodorant.

How is it that some of us knew to a large extent what CA was doing 18 months ago, and others didn’t? Just a simple question. I am an artist, FFS. I don’t even work in journalism or politics.
-
Because some of us already knew the internet was filled with misinformation and approached with caution. For others, they were already deep in the feedback loop of reading and sharing false information unchecked.

This isn't an episode of the Twilight Zone, it's our democracy being targeted by unethical actors. As a grad student, I study psychographics and it's always accompanied by a discussion about ethics, something Cambridge Analytica, the Trump admin, and Putin all seem to be missing.

I'd love to know why, too. Asking for two brothers, a sister-in-law and others lost to me. Dad loved
#FOX, wasn't ever online. He died in November, almost 94, and in the end was so hateful, angry and "suddenly racist" I had to wonder why. - 2 more replies

To me it shows the inability of people to listen and think for themselves. We have so many resources at our disposal you can do your own research and make up your own mind.

Absolutely. It's been shown over and over that people don't do the research themselves. That's why these organizations exist and are effective. So how do we fix it?
