Without capitalism & free markets, the American Dream wouldn’t exist. However, if unregulated capitalism continues to pile rewards on a tiny faction of super rich, that will also destroy the American Dream.

The issue is capitalism unfettered by laws, morals or national boundaries. In the same way that socialism gets a bad name from Stalin and Mao, capitalism is burdened by the abuses of people who turn doing business into a destructive and self-serving cult.

The free market gave us slavery. I’m with you that trade and business generally provide opportunity, but there have to be rules to put decency ahead of greed. Not everyone has a conscience.

If by 'free market' you mean the stagnation and unrest that comes from inequality, externalities, and loss of helpful regulations, then you've lost the narrative. But if you're alluding to the harm caused by reckless application of tariffs, then you have a point.
