It’s hard to overstate the national security implications of this. As president, Trump doesn’t have to actively collude with Moscow’s attacks on his behalf to assist them. He only needs to block the use of American power against them.

With a Trump-led executive branch unwilling to effectively counter Kremlin attacks, what social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram do will be all the more important. Otherwise, the responsibility will fall more fully to the press and civil society groups.
