Tyranny of the majority. Our founding fathers were well aware of the dangers and built in a balance of power. Of course, it only works if the Executive exercises restraint and those in Congress understand their role.

Tyranny of the majority is something many do not understand. Our constitution ensures a majority can not suppress a minority & individual rights are protected. The 60 vote senate rule is a reflection of that. Those seeking to get rid of it are on a path toward authoritarianism.

Couldn't agree more that 'populism' often an inaccurate, intellectually lazy term to describe something much darker (e.g., authoritarianism, neo-fascism, etc.). Time for journalists and scholars to differentiate.
