Diplomacy and statemenship are a lost art. Too many of our representatives are fighting for the staus of the most ideological pure rather than solving America’s problems. Compromise shouldn’t be a dirty word. It’s how heathy relationships thrive.
This shutdown showdown is another reminder of the tension between our system, which generally requires a least some bipartisanship to function, and the political inability of congressional majorities, increasingly driven by their extreme elements, to make basic compromises.

Everything great about this country was built w/ compromise. Compromise is the most consistent norm that our Founders intended.

Not both sides. Progressive voters have watched to center lined pulled further and further to the far right. So far we're actually OK with white supremacy infant mortality rates the highest in the industrialized world. Education is disappearing. Maternal death rates doubling.....

Not quite accurate in this case. There WAS a bi-partisan compromise that Trump is blowing up and that leaders won’t bring to the floor.

The worst part is that the D's and R's had a bipartisan bill on the table, brought it to Trump, who blew it up b/c Kelly told him it wouldn't play well with his base. And that means Trump lied about how he'd sign a negotiated bill, just a week before.

No parties. A party has an organized firm which sells itself to the highest bidder. Many founding fathers didn't want a party system.
