What it is, is proof of an eroding empathy. Everything is seen in terms of "winning," "losing," "appealing to the base," and so on. It's a game to them, and they could not care less who is harmed by it.

Every country has a swath of authoritarian voters. Much of Trump's base is located in parts of country that are not dissimilar from third world nations, or impoverished regions of developed nations. It is no wonder they voted a strongman in.
