Our founders allowed slavery, native slaughter, women not voting, only land-owning white men picking our leaders. THAT'S the conservatism you extol. America only fulfills its promise when progressive, not conservative, principles, win out.

As a moderate Dem (was pretty far left for many BTW), I disagree. If you look at history, the push-pull of differing # ideologies has moved the nation forward in a slow & steady pace. HOWEVER, greed & hate have now become the GOP’s signature issues.

Do you think of liberalism as opposite to conservatism? If so does that imply that you don't think that liberals care about liberty and equality? Not trying to troll, just trying to understand a worldview outside my own.

It’s a bad tweet. It makes no sense especially because he’s wrong. Conservatism never meant equality or liberty. Conservatives want to force religious laws on us, tell us what kind of sex we can have and try to stop anyone not white from voting. That’s conservativism.

It always has - equal opportunities, not equal results.

That is kind of funny because when I think of a liberal I think of liberty (hence the name liberal) and equality. So not sure about the definition of a conservative:)

With all due respect, liberty & eqality are American principles and we Liberals defend them too. It’s a bit offensive when conservatives claim patriotism is their province
