For a select few, mostly those in Congress, it's virtue signalling, while they do nothing to fix the problem. We know this because it's been 5 years since Sandy hook & nothing has been done. That's why they're criticized

Faith without works is dead.

Thoughts and prayers from our elected officials who don't follow it up with any effort to fix the situation are hollow.

I'm sure that absolutely is the case for many in this world. But, those expressing it on autopilot on the occasion of mass shooting after mass shooting, then taking no action when they could, are *not* among those many.

I don't believe for one second that this @POTUS or many others who claim to pray, actually do. To them, it's a "get out of doing any meaningful action" card. Prayer without works is dead and reprehensible to God.

Do you truly believe that prayer helps? That if only everyone prays hard enough suddenly God will sway the minds of would-be killers, will magically stop the bullets before they hit their victims? Will prayer stop guns falling into the hands of the psychotic? No, laws do that.

Agreed, but then what 'works' have resulted from this faith? Defensiveness over 'thoughts & prayers' stikes me as wanting credit for good intentions--that have yet to produce a tangible result. Faith--even well-intentioned--w/o works is dead.

For some I am sure that's true thr problem is that it shouldn't be a replacement for action which is what many - especially in Congress are using it for.
