I know that's not textbook ideal, but in practice, there is no other real political forcing function for spending reexamination.
If the limit is always raised then it can't do that either. The risk of default is real or fake it can't be both.
I believe yesterday's @PodSaveAmerica in this case, that R's in congress either don't understand it or are forced to pretend they don't.
We are supposed to pass a budget every year. Is this review worth billions of $ every year to you? Because that's what it costs. Real cost.
Is it worth $2 trillion? Because that's what 2008 cost and that's a real risk, not an "academic" one.
Do they really examine spending? Or revenue as a result of having to do this? Serious deficit discussion requires both.
