When practiced, yes. Lincoln was an example. GOP has been adrift more recently. Is that your point? Should be obvious that I'm aware.

Sure, but "caricature" seems unduly dismissive of a model with great predictive value regarding acts of most self-described conservatives.

The caricature fits only because so many "conservatives" have abandoned the principles on which the GOP was founded.
