I will add that this is a painfully common authoritarian move. This is not the standard right vs. left debate about the terrorism threat.
We do face a serious terrorist threat, but Trump is distorting and exaggerating its true nature to justify his assertion of control.

Trump will endeavor to make the threat as broad, pervasive, nebulous, and yet urgent as possible.
