I think one of the issues is Dems feel we've been the only one looking for common ground for a long time.

So instead of "common ground" it's just been giving up ground. Some are wary of any concessions because of this.

In theory I agree with you, in reality Dem's spent 8 years extending an olive branch only to have it lit on fire.
