I see liberals and conservatives attacking their own because many are now finding common cause with the other side.
But I caution both sides against this kind of rote partisanship, especially right now.

Yes, we have plenty of disagreements, but we can and must find unity in defense of our liberal democracy and the basic rights it protects.

To do otherwise is self-defeating. Trump prevailed, in part, because he was able to exploit Americans' divisions, mistrust, and animosity.
