McConnell is basically saying it is unimaginable that republican senators are capable of putting the country before party no matter what oath they take
McConnell seems to suggest that senators cannot do "impartial justice" as the chamber's own impeachment trial oath requires because they're senators and political by nature, but our politics must be guided by fact and national interest, not the interests of partisan power.
